A total of 409 former combatants from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) have received financial aid under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) cash-for-work (CFW) program last December 10.

The recipients of the cash grants were decommissioned combatants from Regions 10-Northern Mindanao and 12-SOCCSKSARGEN who have successfully engaged in CFW activities at the community gardens in their respective localities.

DSWD Undersecretary for Inclusive Sustainable Peace and Special Concerns (ISPC) Alan Tanjusay, with officials from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) and the Philippine Army (PA), led the Northern Mindanao payout cluster in Marawi City where a total of 227 former combatants from Lanao Del Sur areas received Php9,000 each.

In his keynote address, the ISPC undersecretary encouraged the recipients to use the cash grants responsibly and carry on with their contribution in peace-building initiatives of the government, particularly in conflict-vulnerable and affected (CVA) communities.

“Ang Php9,000 na tatanggapin ninyo ngayon ay galing po ito sa tax na binibigay ng mga Pilipinong hirap na nagtatrabaho at sa pamamagitan ng DSWD, OPAPRU at Philippine Army, makakatanggap kayo nito. Ang hiling lang namin ay  gamitin ninyo ito ng sapat at maayos,” Undersecretary Tanjusay told the ex-combatants.

Meanwhile, ISPSC Assistant Secretary Arnel Garcia and Peace and Development Buong Bansa Mapayapa (PDBBM) Head Sohra Guialel led the DSWD Field Office (FO) 12 – SOCCSKSARGEN‘s payout to 182 ex-combatants.

Each beneficiary from Cotabato received Php10,881 in cash aid while beneficiaries from the Special Geographic Areas (SGA) in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) received Php9,072 each.

The difference in the amount was based on the standard daily wage rate of Php403 for the Cotabato Province while Php336 for the SGA in the BARMM areas.

MNLF Brigade officials also oversaw the cash distribution and expressed gratitude for the government’s generosity in addressing the insurgency problem through programs that benefit families of the former combatants.

Also joining the SOCCSKSARGEN event were DSWD FO-12 Regional Director Loreto Cabaya, Cotabato Governor Emmylou Talino Mendoza and BARMM officials.
