The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Field Office 2-Cagayan Valley provided psychosocial first aid to the evacuees of Typhoon Julian in the region.
“Apart from providing family food packs (FFPs), the DSWD also ensures the overall well-being of families affected by Super Typhoon Julian. This is part of the Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) role of the agency,” Asst. Secretary Juan Carlo Marquez, who is also the DSWD co-spokesperson, said on Thursday (October 3).
According to Asst. Secretary Marquez , the DSWD FO-2 conducted psychosocial interventions to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking temporary shelter inside the evacuation centers in the island province of Batanes.
The FO in Cagayan Valley, through its Social Welfare and Development Team (SWADT), also conducted psychosocial first aid to the IDPs in Sta. Ana, Cagayan.
“Based on our Disaster Response Operations Management, Information and Communication (DROMIC) report as of October 3, there are 86 families or 260 persons currently taking temporary shelter in 17 evacuation centers in Region 2 and in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
In Region 2 alone, there are 23 families or 87 individuals inside the evacuation centers,” Asst. Secretary Marquez said.
As of press time, the agency has already released more than Php14.2 million worth of humanitarian assistance for the families affected by the super typhoon.
The DSWD FO 2 has so far provided 3,332 boxes of FFPs, as well as sleeping kits to the affected families in the region.
“Rest assured that the DSWD will continue to provide the necessary interventions to the affected families to support them as they recover from the effects of Super Typhoon Julian,” Asst. Secretary Marquez said. #
