The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to put a premium on adopting innovative and transformative approaches to better serve vulnerable Filipinos.
In a workshop on institutionalizing the Information and Communication Technology Project Management Office (ICT-PMO) held last October 15 at the Madison 101 Hotel in Quezon City, DSWD Assistant Secretary for e-Governance and Information and Technology (IT) Concerns Julius Gorospe underscored the significance of digital transformation, stressing that it is a mandate set by Secretary Rex Gatchalian.
“Secretary Gatchalian has made it clear that digital transformation is not just a buzzword but a mandate. It is the foundation upon which we will build a DSWD that is faster, more efficient, and more responsive to the needs of every Filipino,” Asst. Secretary Gorospe, who is also the agency’s Chief Information Officer and Information System Planner, said.
The DSWD official emphasized the critical role of the people and the PMO in leading and sustaining the digital transformation initiative.
A well-established ICT-PMO, Asst. Secretary Gorospe said, would ensure that the Department’s digital initiatives aligned with its vision will be implemented effectively and will benefit the most vulnerable sectors of society.
“Digital transformation is not just about adopting new technologies. It is about building systems, processes, and most importantly— people… A well-established PMO will be the backbone of our digital initiatives, ensuring that every project aligns with our vision for a digitally empowered DSWD,” Asst. Secretary Gorospe pointed out.
The agency official highlighted the DSWD’s commitment to professionalizing project management by adopting best practices, building a capable and agile workforce, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
The DSWD’s CIO stressed that the institutionalization of the ICT-PMO would create a ripple effect across the entire DSWD, promoting accountability, clear objectives, and measurable success for all digital projects.
“In this workshop, we are not just drafting a roadmap or assembling a team. We are building the architecture for sustainable innovation,” Asst. Secretary Gorospe said. #
