The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) acknowledged on Tuesday (October 29) the logistical support extended by the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the Philippine  Coast Guard (PCG) has been pivotal in delivering swift relief operations to localities hit by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Kristine, particularly in the Bicol Region.

Special Assistant to the Secretary (SAS) for Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) and Concurrent Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau (NRLMB) Leo Quintilla said the DSWD has been coordinating closely with the PAF in the airlift of relief supplies to the Bicol Region since the weather conditions have permitted air travel.

“In a situation briefing held over the weekend, we can recall President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.  assuring the public that help is coming to Kristine-hit families whether by land, air or sea. The DSWD and other concerned government agencies have been coordinating non-stop to heed the chief executive’s directive and ensure that relief items reach our affected kababayans in the fastest time possible,” SAS Quintilla said.

“Just today , with the logistical support of the PAF and their personnel, we have loaded an additional 300 FFPs to the C-130 PAF aircraft that is now en-route to Naga City in Camarines Sur,” the DSWD-NLRMB official added.

SAS Quintilla said the C-130 cargo aircraft of the Republic of Singapore Air Force has also helped in the delivery of 1,120 boxes of FFPs on Monday (October 28) from Villamor Air Base to the Bicol Region.

SAS Quintilla noted that while most of the additional FFPs from the National Capital Region (NCR) were delivered through the PAF aircrafts and by land, the supplies coming from the Visayas Disaster Resource Center (VDRC) utilized the vessels of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

“Yesterday morning, two PCG vessels carrying 14,000 boxes of FFPs from the VDRC departed from the Port of Cebu bound for the Bicol Region. I would also like to note that it is not just their ships that speed up our humanitarian response, but also their workforce who help us in moving and transporting our goods,” SAS Quintilla pointed out. #
