The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Field Office (FO)-CALABARZON distributed the last tranche of cash assistance, under the agency’s Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT), to around 1,500 Caviteños affected by the August 7 and September 10 fire incidents in Bacoor City, Cavite.
These fire incidents were aggravated by heavy rains and flooding caused by the series of weather disturbances that battered the country.
“The DSWD already provided the first and second tranches last September and October where each beneficiary received Php10,140 and Php24,940, respectively,” DSWD FO-CALABARZON Regional Director Barry Chua said.
For the last tranche, the beneficiaries received Php15,000 each during the payout last Saturday (November 16) at the Strike Revilla Gymnasium, bringing their overall ECT benefits to Php50,100, according to Director Chua.
They may use the amount to repair their damaged shelters, purchase medicines, access other health care, and meet their daily needs.
“We provided them with ECT to help them cope with the challenges brought about by the twin fire incidents compounded by the consecutive typhoons,” Regional Director Chua said.
The ECT is an adaptive strategy to connect immediate disaster relief, humanitarian response, and early recovery support. It does this by offering unconditional cash assistance to families
affected by disasters and emergencies who require intervention.
“ECT offers unconditional grants to disaster-affected communities, filling the gap between immediate relief assistance and early recovery support,” the DSWD official said. # (YADP)
