The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Central Office is set to deploy the members of its Quick Response Team (QRT) to other Field Offices (FOs) to assist in disaster operations in response to Tropical Cyclones ‘Pepito’ and ‘Ofel.’
In a special order signed by Secretary Rex Gatchalian and issued on November 18, the QRT of the Central Office was officially activated to deliver additional support and specialized assistance for the on-going disaster response operation of the Department.
Under the said order, a total of 100 personnel from the Central Office are set to augment the disaster response workforce of selected field offices, particularly those rendering on-going support to local government units (LGUs) severely affected by Typhoons Pepito and Ofel.
“The QRT has been activated to provide support in pursuing the Department’s Disaster Risk Reduction mandate as Vice-Chairperson for Disaster Response and Early Recovery Cluster of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC),” Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said.
Assistant Secretary Dumlao added that in the aftermath of Kristine, DSWD personnel from other FOs were also deployed to Bicol Region to assist in the disaster operations of FO 5.
“Basically, this is what we call inter-field office operability, a practice of the agency for a long time now lalo na tuwing may large-scale disaster operations tayong pinangungunahan. Recently, we tapped this as we deployed some of our QRTs from Regions 1, 8 and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) para humalili sa personnel natin from Region 5,” Assistant Secretary Dumlao said.
“This time, gagawin naman natin, ang mga Central Office personnel naman ang tutulong sa ibang FO personnel natin to double our workforce, at para na rin ma-address
yung issue ng fatigue na maaaring nararanasan ng mga disaster response frontliner natin dahil na rin sa sunod-sunod na bagyong tumama sa Northern Luzon at Bicol,” the DSWD official added.
As of November 20, the DSWD has extended over Php156 million in humanitarian aid to families affected by Tropical Cyclones Nika, Ofel, and Pepito.
Assistant Secretary Dumlao said that on top of these released aid, the Department is ready to provide more, as well as financial aid in the coming days.
“Following Pepito, makakaasa ang ating mga kababayan na tuloy-tuloy pa rin ang suporta ng ating ahensiya. We are also ready to provide financial aid and other forms of intervention as part of our early recovery efforts, partikular na po sa pinaka-apektadong mga komunidad,” the DSWD official pointed out.# (LSJ)

Nakatakdang magpadala ng Quick Response Team (QRT) ang Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) upang tumulong sa disaster response operation na isinasagawa para sa mga lugar na lubhang naapektuhan ng bagyong ‘Pepito’ at ‘Ofel.’
Base sa special order na nilagdaan ni DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian nitong Lunes (November 18) ang QRT mula sa Central Office ay in-activate upang magbigay ng suporta sa pagbibigay ng tulong sa mga apektadong pamilya at indibidwal dulot ng mga nagdaang bagyo sa bansa.
Nakasaad sa nasabing special order ang pagpapadala ng 100 personnel mula sa DSWD Central Office para magsilbing suporta sa mga field offices ng ahensya na nagbibigay ng tulong sa mga lokal na pamahalaan na naapektuhan ng kalamidad.
