The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) received another batch of logistical support from GCash on Thursday (November 28), which helped deliver 5,100 boxes of family food packs (FFPs) to those affected by the recent typhoon.

Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said three 10-wheeler trucks from GCash arrived at the National Resource Operations Center (NROC) in Pasay City and the trucks were each loaded with 1,700 boxes of FFPs bound for the Bicol Region.

“We used these trucks to deliver food packs and replenish our supplies in our agency warehouses at Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte, which have been non-stop in dispensing relief goods due to the previous storms that impacted Region 5,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao, who is also the DSWD’s spokesperson said.

Asst. Secretary Dumlao said the Bicol-bound trucks marked the second round of logistical support from GCash.

The first batch comprised two trucks that delivered 3,400 boxes of FFPs to Cagayan Valley on November 20.

The DSWD is also expecting the arrival of more delivery trucks, as GCash pledged to lend 12 trucks to boost the agency’s logistical operations.

“Again, I would like to express gratitude for GCash’s generosity. Initially, they told us they would provide up to six trucks to support our relief operations and prepositioning efforts following Tropical Cyclone Pepito,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao said.

“But out of their goodwill, they doubled their initial pledge and said they would deploy 12 trucks,” the DSWD spokesperson added.

Asst. Secretary Dumlao said the digital wallet company’s support is crucial, as the agency has now shifted focus on maximizing the capacities of its various storage facilities nationwide.

In addition to logistical support, GCash’s mother company Globe also sent a group of employees who volunteered to help in the repacking activities at the NROC, the agency’s main production hub.

“We used these trucks to deliver food packs and replenish our supplies in our agency warehouses at Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte, which have been non-stop in dispensing relief goods due to the previous storms that impacted Region 5,”sabi ni Asst. Secretary Dumlao.

“Again, I would like to express gratitude for GCash’s generosity. Initially, they told us they would provide up to six trucks to support our relief operations and prepositioning efforts following Tropical Cyclone Pepito,” sabi ni Asst. Secretary Dumlao.

Dagdag pa niya, “But out of their goodwill, they doubled their initial pledge and said they would deploy 12 trucks.”
