In line with its digitalization efforts, the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Strategic Communications (StratComm) group showcased its new initiative called the e-News Library system that monitors and consolidates all agency-issued press releases.
Director Aldrine Fermin of the StratComm’s Traditional Media Service (TMS) said on Thursday (January 30), the e-News Library system aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of managing published press releases in print, online and broadcast media by providing a centralized platform for tracking and consolidating information.
“Nagkaroon tayo ng e-News Library kung saan lahat ng mga information, news clips, video clips, interviews, pinag-sama sama sa isang database,” Director Fermin told reporters during DSWD Thursday Media Forum.
The news portal will serve as a comprehensive online hub for analyzing DSWD-related news and media coverage to be utilized by internal agency staff, particularly the information officers from the Central Office and Field Offices.
The electronic news library has two main sections – the news monitoring matrix where all the gathered news data is stored and can be easily accessed and the dashboard which presents all the key information from the encoded data.
For the news monitoring matrix, the administrator has complete control and manages user access, adding or removing users and configuring the matrix.
The matrix encoder is responsible for adding, editing and deleting the news article they have gathered while the viewer, which will be limited to selected DSWD employees, can view all the news materials but are unable to add, edit or delete.
The e-News Library dashboard is accessible to anyone with permission, provided they have a DSWD email account.
According to Director Fermin, the online news library evolved from the daily news monitoring of the TMS. It eventually became an internal database that facilitates the crafting of appropriate messages to combat fake news about the DSWD and its programs and services, as well as to address issues related to social welfare and development.
“Isang kagandahan nito ay para maiwasan din ang fake reports. Halimbawa, may interview si Secretary at mali yung pagkaka-quote kay Secretary, mababalikan natin ngayon kasi mababalikan natin ang buong transcript ng interview,” Director Fermin pointed out.
The e-News Library will also help the agency to monitor the number of partner-news agencies that are utilizing the DSWD’s press releases for their news stories in print, broadcast, or digital media.
The weekly Thursday Media Forum, held at the DSWD Central Office’s New Press Center in Quezon City, is hosted by Special Assistant to the Secretary (SAS) for Communications Raymond Robert Burgos and Director Dianne Joie Ruiz of the Digital Media Service (DMS). The forum is live-streamed over the DSWD Facebook page. (AKDL)
