A senior official of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported on Thursday (November 21) that the agency had distributed about 2 million boxes of family food packs (FFPs) to local government units (LGUs) affected by Typhoons Kristine, Leon, Ofel, Marce, Nika, and Pepito.
During the Thursday Media Forum at the DSWD Central Office’s New Press Center, Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao explained the agency continuously produces FFPs for prepositioning while providing additional relief support.
“Habang nagpo-produce tayo ng food packs sa major production hubs natin in Pasay City and in Cebu ay patuloy tayong nagdi-dispatch o nagre-release ng karagdagang food packs as part of our augmentation support to LGUs,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao told reporters.
Of the 1,956,942 released food packs, the bulk of which totaling 1,451,593, were distributed to regions affected by STS Kristine and STY Leon.
In addition, more than 390,000 food packs were provided to areas impacted by TY Nika, Pepito, and STY Ofel, while over 100,000 food packs were sent to LGUs affected by TY Marce.
The DRMG official said the DSWD aims to complete all augmentation support to the affected LGUs by Sunday, November 24.
“Instruction po ni DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian na tiyakin po natin na adequate ang ating mga resources, particularly the stockpile,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao pointed out.
The DSWD holds standby funds amounting to Php130.9 million and has a stockpile valued at Php940.2 million. (YADP)
