Another batch of college students, this time from the province of Bulacan, has finished their cash-for-work under the DSWD Tara, Basa Tutoring Program and received commendation from Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary REX Gatchalian.

The DSWD chief awarded certificates to partners who contributed to the success of this year’s implementation of the tutoring program during the culminating activity on Friday (September 27) at the City of San Jose Del Monte Convention Center in Bulacan province.

Assisting Secretary Gatchalian in the handing out of certificates were San Jose del Monte City Mayor Arthur Robes; City College of San Jose del Monte (CCSJDM) President Roger Ambida; and Education Program Supervisor Elizabeth Eligio.

During the program, a student-tutor, a YDW, and a parent of struggling or non-reader beneficiary shared their experiences and learnings they gained from the program to the delight of Secretary Gatchalian, who was accompanied by DSWD Field Office 3 – Central Luzon Regional Director Venus Rebuldela and Social Technology Bureau officer in-charge Helen Suzara.

The Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program is the DSWD’s reformatted educational assistance that creates an ecosystem of learning wherein college students will be capacitated and deployed as tutors to teach poor and non or struggling readers in public elementary schools and as YDWs to conduct Nanay-Tatay learning sessions.

Among those who attended the Tara, Basa! culminating activity were Bulacan Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Rowena Tiongson and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Rowena Gugulan.
