The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has cited the local government unit (LGU) of Eastern Samar, headed by Governor Ben Evardone, for the LGU’s active involvement in the successful implementation of the agency’s programs throughout the province.
During his speech at the 59th Founding Anniversary of Eastern Samar last November 9, DSWD Undersecretary for Inclusive-Sustainable Peace and Special Concerns (ISPSC) Alan Tanjusay said the strong collaboration between the Department and Eastern Samar province has facilitated the delivery of programs to those in need.
“We are grateful for the unwavering support from the Provincial Government in ensuring that the Department’s programs reach every corner of the province,” Undersecretary Tanjusay said.
“Together, we have made significant strides in bringing essential services to our kababayans, and we remain committed to continuing this collaborative effort,” the DSWD official said.
Undersecretary Tanjusay stressed in his message the DSWD’s dedication in enhancing its collaboration with Eastern Samar, particularly in critical areas such as disaster preparedness and response, social protection, and local governance capacity building.
These initiatives are crucial for meeting the evolving needs of the province’s communities, ensuring that everyone is included in the pursuit of sustainable development, the DSWD official said.
“These efforts are crucial in meeting the emerging needs of the communities, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of sustainable development,” Undersecretary Tanjusay pointed out.
Undersecretary Tanjusay described the people of Eastern Samar as embodying the spirit of the “Balangiga Bells” – katapangan, kadakilaan at katalinuhan — a reflection of their commitment to their community, culture, and shared values.
The Undersecretary for ISPSC was joined by Asst. Secretary Arnel Garcia and DSWD Field Office 8 (Eastern Visayas) Regional Director Grace Subong in the celebration of Eastern Samar’s remarkable growth since its establishment.
This year’s theme, “Celebrating a Milestone of Public Service and a Legacy of Excellence,” highlighted the province’s strong commitment to good governance, community development, and the pursuit of excellence in all sectors.
The anniversary festivities in Borongan City featured a series of cultural, civic, and community-oriented activities designed to showcase Eastern Samar’s rich history and honor its people’s resilience and unity. (CDB)
