DSWD Region IV-A Dir. Leticia Diokno signs the Memorandum of Agreement together with Tanay, Rizal Mayor Rafael Tanjuatco and WEP founding Director Juliet Kwee as Haven for the Elderly Center Head Ricky Bunao looks on.

Tanay, Rizal—The Department of Social Welfare and Development  (DSWD), the World Experience Philippines (WEP) and the municipal government recently signed two Memoranda of Agreement to expand the provision of social services to seniors staying at the Haven for the Elderly, a DSWD-run residential care facility in this town.

Under the agreement, the LGU  will allocate a yearly budget of P300,000 for the laboratory and burial expenses of the elders staying in the institution. The LGU will also provide medical and dental services, and will improve the center’s facilities.

The signing of the agreements highlighted the weeklong celebration of the fourth Founding Anniversary of Haven for the Elderly this month with the theme, “Nakatatanda: Kaagapay sa Mahusay na Paglilingkod”.

DSWD-Field Office IV-A  Director Leticia Diokno signed the agreements with WEP Director Juliet Kwee and Mayor Rafael Tanjuatco.

“Haven for the Elderly is grateful to Mayor Tanjuatco for his untiring support in extending  help to our residents,” Dir. Diokno said.

She also commended the WEP volunteers “for unselfishly sharing their time, knowledge, skills, experience and resources with  the residents.”

To date, there are 213 older persons staying in the center who are being provided with dietary, health, socio-cultural, psychological, activity therapy, spiritual enhancement and productivity services.

Haven for the Elderly Center Head Ricky Bunao explained, “We are also engaging the seniors in some sports activities, crafting various products, and in recreational activities, such as singing, which they enjoy.”

The Haven for the Elderly was recently assessed, and is waiting confirmation for level 2 and 3 accreditation as a residential care facility for abandoned and unattached older persons. ###
