As part of its disaster response efforts, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided financial assistance to families whose houses were damaged due to Typhoon Betty.
In Ilocos Region, the DSWD Field Office (FO) I provided financial assistance through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) worth P10,000 to a family in Laoac, Pangasinan whose house was totally damaged due to a fallen tree caused by strong winds of Typhoon Betty.
Another family with a partially damaged house in the same municipality received P5,000 through AICS for shelter reconstruction.
Aside from financial aid, the affected families received a total of 10 Family Food Packs (FFPs), 5 hygiene kits, 5 sleeping kits, 5 family kits, 5 kitchen kits and 2 laminated sacks from DSWD FO I.
In Region III, the Department sent 1,305 FFPs for distribution to fisher folks who were affected by the “No Sailing Policy” in Dingalan, Aurora.
Based on the May 30 report of the DSWD Disaster Response Management Bureau (DRMB), the Department has already provided an initial P150,157 worth of humanitarian assistance to families hit by the typhoon in the Ilocos and Cagayan Valley Regions.
The DSWD also extended P484,972 worth of aid to families affected by the Southwest Monsoon or ‘Habagat’ that was enhanced by Typhoon Betty.
Currently, the DSWD, in coordination with concerned local government units (LGUs), is monitoring the condition of 185 families or 729 individuals who are taking temporary shelter in 27 evacuation centers in the Iocos, Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon Regions.
The DSWD is also observing the condition of 10 families in two evacuation centers in Western Visayas Region that were displaced by the Southwest monsoon rains.
DSWD spokespersons Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez said the DSWD will continue with its repacking and prepositioning of relief goods to ensure the sufficiency of relief supplies in the affected areas.
“Secretary Gatchalian has already instructed all DSWD Field Offices to continue the replenishment of food and non-food items in all regional warehouses and disaster hubs to guarantee enough assistance to displaced families and individuals,” the DSWD official said. #
