Children and the elderly who are residents of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) centers and residential care facilities (CRCFs) enjoyed Christmas through simple celebrations that include gift-giving.
All seven non-residential care facilities held a simple celebration and gift-giving activities among its 786 clients last December 20. The non-residential care facilities provided interventions that were rendered daily while addressing crisis or developmental concerns of an individual, a group of individuals, or a family.
A similar activity on Christmas Day (December 25)was enjoyed by more than 5,500 residents in 69 residential care facilities across the country. The residential care facilities held social, homelife, health and nutrition, educational, productivity/livelihood services as well as cultural, recreational and spiritual enrichment activities.
The celebrations brought smiles to children, elderly individuals, and other residents through games, shared meals, and lively performances of dances and songs that filled the facilities with festive cheer.
In some facilities, our “lolos” and “lolas” enjoyed a shared Noche Buena, adding warmth and happiness to their Christmas Salubong.
“Filipinos are known for their tradition of spending the Holiday Season with family, and we want to ensure that residents of our centers feel love and care despite their circumstances,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao, who is also the DSWD spokesperson, said.
Asst. Secretary Dumlao said the initiative is part of the DSWD’s effort to share the spirit of generosity and compassionate service during the season of giving.
Each client received a personalized gift pack or loot bag depending on their age and sector.
Children who are 0-7 years old were given toys, clothes, slippers, shoes, accessories, educational books, and school bags.
Older children who are 7-17 years old received shoes, clothes, accessories, cologne, sandals, hygiene kits, and school bags.
For 15 to below 18 years old, they were provided with the same basic necessities with art materials and sport kits.
Older persons received chess, scrabble and other board games as well as pain killer ointments.
Persons with disabilities were provided with chessboard for visually-impaired, grocery packages, hygiene kits, shoes, and clothes.
“We want to make sure that the DSWD, even in simple ways, can grant the wish lists of our clients,” the DSWD spokesperson said.
All clients and residents in residential and non-residential facilities also participated in song and dance presentations, joined in the games and booth activities, and dined with the prepared party foods.
The residential care facilities will also hold year-end dinner celebration on December 31 and an activity to celebrate New Year’s Day on January 1. (YADP)
