As the impact of Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Kristine widens, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian assured on Thursday (October 24) that the agency has enough supplies to provide continuous relief support to local government units (LGUs) battered by the storm.
So tayo, nasa warehouse natin yung mga goods na bago naman tumama yung epekto ni Bagyong Kristine, bago pa maramdaman, sa Bicol alone, we had 170K na piraso ng family food packs (FFPs),” the DSWD chief said in an interview aired over GMA-7’s Unang Hirit.
The DSWD chief said the LGUs of Bicol have so far picked up their requests of 50,000 boxes of family food packs from the agency’s Field Office 5 to support their relief operations for their respective constituents.
Secretary Gatchalian also emphasized the role of the DSWD as the agency tasked with ensuring that the LGUs have sufficient relief resources since they are the first responders during disasters and calamities.
