In its continuing effort to provide appropriate intervention programs to vulnerable individuals, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has partnered with the academe and private sector for the development of training manuals aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the multidisciplinary teams managing the different client cases in the agency’s centers and residential care facilities (CRCFs).

“Gusto kong i-report sa inyo na sa tulong ng academe at private sector, gumawa tayo ng mga angkop na programa o in-update natin yung intervention programs natin sa mga care facility natin,” DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said in an interview over PTV’s Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon on Monday (January 13).

The modules being developed focus on the skills enhancement of social workers, psychometricians, house parents, and other staff in the CRCFs who assess, conduct case management, and provide interventions to clients.

“Hindi pwede na yung one size fits all. Hindi pwede yung intervention na psycho-emotional, para sa matanda, yun na yung gagamitin mo sa bata,” Secretary Gatchalian pointed out.

The training modules, which will be developed by subject matter experts, are tailored-fit per sector—from children to older persons.

“For the first time, we tailored fit yung mga psycho-emotional, psycho-social intervention natin para sa bawat sektor,” Secretary Gatchalian said.

Some of the priority manuals will focus on basic psychological strategies; parenting and managing child behaviors; handling persons living with dementia; and nutrition care processes for centers and residential care facilities, among others.

Currently, the agency operates 77 residential care facilities across the 16 DSWD regional field offices catering to children, youth, women, older persons, persons with disabilities, families, and other vulnerable groups. (YADP)
