To ensure that the needs of families and individuals affected by the Severe Tropical Storm Kristine and Super Typhoon Leon are promptly addressed, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues the delivery of family food packs (FFPs) even on holidays.

“Even on holidays, our mission to serve those in need remains our top priority. We understand that many families are facing difficult circumstances and we want to ensure they have the resources they need in this difficult time,” Assistant Secretary for Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Irene Dumlao, who is also the agency spokesperson, said on Friday (November 1).

Asst. Secretary Dumlao said the agency has been sending FFPs non-stop to the Bicol Region, which is the hardest-hit region, with a total of 725,882 affected families or 3,062,126 individuals.

“We are grateful to the Singapore Air Force (SAF) for providing us helicopters for the delivery of FFPs to our kababayans in the Bicol Region this Friday,” the DSWD spokesperson said.

DSWD Field Office 5-Bicol Regional Director Norman Laurio led the delivery of FFPs to Kristine-hit families and individuals in Barangay Sumaoy in Garchitorena town, Camarines Sur.

In Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), the DSWD Field Office also delivered 1,000 FFPs on Friday to the island municipality of Calayan in Cagayan province as augmentation support to the local government unit (LGU).

Also on Friday, DSWD Field Office 2-Cagayan Valley social workers provided psychological counseling to Batanes residents to help them cope with the effects of Super Typhoon Leon. # (YDP)
