The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) newly-opened Walang Gutom Kitchen will remain open during the holidays.

“Our Walang Gutom Kitchen will continue to provide food on December 24, 30, and 31 which are holidays. It will also continue to operate on December 26 to 29 which are regular days,” Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, who is also the DSWD spokesperson, said.

Asst. Secretary Dumlao said the kitchen will be closed on December 25 and on January 1, 2025.

“The Walang Gutom Kitchen is open to all families and individuals in street situations (FISS) and those experiencing involuntary hunger,” the DSWD spokesperson said.

Individuals from diverse backgrounds who were found on streets were taken to the Pag-Abot processing center for initial assistance through the Walang Gutom Kitchen.

The Walang Gutom Kitchen was established to address involuntary hunger and reduce food wastage by turning donated surplus food from hotels, restaurants, and organizations into hot, nutritious meals.

Asst. Secretary Dumlao said the food being provided are not “pagpag” or discarded foods, but fresh, healthy, and delicious meals.  (YADP)
